The Firefly:
This mock-up shows Swarovski fiber optic crystals atop patina-ed brass rods of different heights to throw small pools of light onto the flowers, perfect for a bougainvillea hedge. The brass rods spike into the ground, & cables run to a remote fiber optic illuminator. One lamp in an illuminator can power many individual crystals , depending on placements.
We're often looking for a more delicate way to light flowers, & these slim rods have the additional appeal of disappearing into the garden during the day.
The Lotus:
This mock-up shows Swarovski fiber optic crystals atop floating, patina-ed copper plates cut to look like a Lotus leaf. It was developed for a project in Honolulu that was to have 3 acres of Lotus-filled water gardens, surrounded & intersected by covered colonnades & sitting & dining areas. We wanted to light the beautiful colors of the Lotus flowers at night from within the water, instead of downlighting them from the eaves which would've caused glary reflections on the water's surface.
The Lotus floats by a section of styrofoam hidden in a j-box underneath the leaf, & would have jacketed cables running to remote fiber optic illuminators, which could power many crystals depending on placements. We envisioned different cable lengths, from 10' to 20' from the pools' base, tethered & anchored into underwater j-boxes, allowing the Lotus lights to float alongside & with the flowers, depending on the wind.
We also imagined a few different styles of Lotus lights using the same crystals: one, a 3' diameter wagon wheel shape made of brass, with little 2" square brass "sails" mounted vertically on an angle around the perimeter, & spaced 1' on center, so the wind could spin the wheel. The wheel would also have the fiber optic crystals dotting its shape, & could float around the water garden with the flowers.
Unfortunately, the owner decided to buy a boat instead of building the house, but we are always looking for new projects to develop these products for.
