The interior lighting features the owner’s vast beyond-museum quality art collection, with Wendelighting being added for in-frame perfect illumination of the paintings.

The landscape lighting features an arroyo of Sycamores descending down the hill, with some amber lighting interspersed with warm white to add dimension to the view. A linear, hidden uplight washes one of the two-story rough-hewn stone walls, also with a touch of amber to add depth behind the warm white light on the Sycamores.

Designed lighting for both the original purchase & the renovation to add in the apartment next door, restoring the Living Room's 20' high ceilings of compound vaults to the full 1926 ballroom originally designed. The lighting features the clients' large-scale, museum-quality modern art collection, & the ceiling's vaults are softly uplit from fixtures tucked into decorative column capitals & cornices throughout the room, painstakingly brought up to date for the same, soft, amber lighting as the original design, without any "singing" when dimmed.

Designed the exterior architectural and site lighting for the expansion of an exclusive resort featuring Ian Fleming’s original, open air house where he wrote many of the James Bond novels. Custom, 9’ high gas light torcheres were designed to mark the paths home, or to the sea turtle nesting beaches, where Jamaican almond trees are uplit with amber LED fixtures for when the hatchlings need to follow the moonlight on their way out to sea. A crystal clear lagoon winds through the property, where every house has a swim platform for jumping in at all hours, and the blue LED underwater lighting glows to entice even the children to think it’s their own salt water pool.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Designed interior and landscape lighting for 11-acre waterfront estate, where the new property across the road added seven buildings in an Asian array to sleep 24 for spring break visits from the extended family. The new Veranda wing includes space for a dining table to seat 60, and covered colonnades with miniature downlights skimming each column lead guests to five buildings edged with ample reflecting pools, where hidden, indirect, linear LED lighting glows and reflects along the edges. Custom pendants, sconces & installation art by Ingo Maurer embellish practically every room, including a 15' long Egg, set in the Music Room, upholstered inside for enjoying an opera or concert. Plans for the planted gardens include sprinkling them with fiber optic crystals on stainless steel spikes to catch the colors of the bougainvillea flowers after dark.

Designed interior and landscape lighting for a new 80,000 sq. ft. house, set on a very high plateau overlooking Beverly Hills and beyond, planned for entertaining both the family of 9 and their friends with the same. 15’ h. ceilings of white oak planks meet walls of oak planks, bound by full-height sliding glass pocket doors, which disappear giving the “tree house” it’s open, voluminous spaces. Recessed downlights have tiny 2.5” diam. trimless square apertures for highlighting both art and tables for board games, and most rooms are ambiently lit by recessed, baffled slots hiding linear fluorescent or LED strip lighting for subtle, energy efficient and dimmable washes onto the vertical surfaces. Site lighting includes custom gaslight sconces and table lamps for enjoying the movement of open flames on the Bahama Blue Limestone facades, as well as a silhouetted water channel for showing the white lotus flower shapes reflecting in the glass pool enclosure. An interior Atrium is capped by a rounded skylight grid, & fixtures mounted out of site on the roof criss cross the structure, catching various parts of the support beams in a "fractured star" lighting display.

Designed new landscape lighting for ultra high-end condominiums' public spaces and gardens, where a patch work of "cool white" LED fixtures installed by a slew of different electricians had resulted in a cacophony of colors & fixture types. We first surveyed the gardens & prepared As-Built lighting plans & Fixture Schedules to see what lighting could be re-used, & then conducted a mock-up showing that well-placed, warmer-colored lighting could be more relaxing, flattering & interesting. On existing fixtures where we would change the lamps for this in the future, we added both neutral density gels to dim the brightness, & specific amber gels to adjust the color for the mock-up (both strategies borrowed from our television & theatrical lighting design experience - part of our unique skill set for solving lighting problems!). Finally we added baffles to recessed tree uplights along walkways to demonstrate the calming effect of removing glare from the garden's beauty.

Designed new landscape lighting for 5-acre bay-front residence on private island featuring sculpted Mediterranean bonsai ficus arrays & carpets of impatiens & seasonal flower beds. The lighting design included using miniature, snooted LED fixtures set in the banyan trees for spot lighting arrays of hanging orchids. New sculptures were lit throughout the property for views from the main rooms of the house, and all underwater fixtures were refurbished and repositioned for a more subtle effect.

West Hartford Residence, West Hartford, Connecticut.

Designed interior and landscape lighting for 126-acre mountain-top estate, with formal terraces and gardens designed for 200-guest events as well as for enjoying the panoramic views. A 10,000 sq. ft. basement houses the client’s collection of 60 ‘orchestrions’: elaborate, carved precursors to juke boxes with full-sized self-playing instruments, and an IR control system allows all lighting to dim except the accent fixtures on the featured music machine for the guests' pleasure. Outside, a glass funicular drops down to the Lake House and dock, for paddling out to the gazebo island in the evening, with banks of shrubs softly uplit above the shore.

As designer with Imero Fiorentino Associates, NY, NY, (S. Murray, 1980-82), collaborated on the exterior architectural and landscape lighting for the "World Showcase", a permanent world's fair comprising one half of the Epcot Center.

Lighting for each of the original nine international pavilions featured the traditional architectural details and landscape specimens of that country. Executed design drawings, details and fixture schedules, and co-supervised the site installation and focus of 5,000 fixtures, all hidden from view. A major design advancement was acknowledging that at previous parks, the street lights were too glary, so we redesigned them to hide the main downlight in the fixtures' caps, with a dimmer lamp showing in the traditional lantern place. Disney also allowed us to hide facade accent lighting in any structure, enabling a truly theatrical lighting treatment to all pavilion views.

Designed lighting for waterfront Mississippi-style house of wrap-around porches and continuous french doors overlooking Long Island Sound. Hidden fiber optic bars uplight the octagonal panels of a 3-story Stair Hall cupola, finishing the view and making an inaccessible area 'maintainable' by remoting the illuminator in a 3rd Floor closet. A unique control system provides a single-fader dimmer for proportionate dimming of all lighting in each room, as well as a 'good night' button to turn off the entire house by the wife's bedside. All landscape lights were rated wet/dry, & their conduits were sealed to be submersible for the 100 year flood warning, which occurred years later during Hurricane Sandy.

The lighting features the clients' art, glass & antique collections. & is circuited to allow the dimming of perimeter walls, leaving a few choice paintings glowing as the only reflections in the views of city lights. Special track fixtures above a 3-story circular stair spotlight the turns of a custom brushed-steel banister, using "white HPS" lamps lasting 10,000 hours.

Currently designing interior & landscape lighting for this historic resort’s new renovation. A 2-story beachside bar is being added with a 25’ vaulted ceiling for displaying the enormous bamboo fish sculpture reflecting in the floor to ceiling windows. The new Lobby & Dining Room & its Bar feature backlit stone countertops and softly lit sheer curtains with linear lighting hidden in pockets above. All landscape lighting facing the beach is amber-colored for the sea turtle nesting beach requirements, with all exterior lighting approved by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.

Designed lighting for ultra high-end jewelry store featuring French Empire display cases, cloud burst ceilings and inlaid marble floors. Besides lessening the contrast ratio's which made their other stores appear too dark, three-dimensional lighting was added to the clients' mirrored seating areas, to enliven their reflections when trying on the jewelry, giving clients’ faces a healthy glow, and the diamonds a crisp, white accent to best show their fire.

Designed interior lighting for renovation of the Antigua resort's open air lobby, (2) dining courtyards, and (4) lounges and restaurants. The treads of a curved mahogany stair, rising from the Lobby garden to the Piano Bar are spotlit from concealed fiber optic points hidden in the handrail - part of the composition of 'designed reflections' in the skylight above. The Nassau resort's "Roman Bath" spa includes soft washes on full-sized statues, uplit waterfalls from jacuzzi platforms, and dimmed, indirect lighting for all massage rooms.

Garden: Designed lighting for 10-acre former Jack Warner estate, laid out for after-dinner strolls through formal terraces and rose gardens, down the 1/4-mile-long driveway colonnade of 50' high sycamores, or across a 3-story serpentine path fronting old stone waterfalls. The sycamores are carefully uplit as fine art, with 3 tiers of dimming according to height, and downlights hidden in live oaks cast shadow patterns onto the old brick and Turkish Limestone pathways.

Interior: Also refined the interior lighting and controls for the Main House. Miniature fixtures and projectors were added to complete the art, sculpture and table lighting in the main rooms, and the circuits for each extraordinary, museum-quality painting were separated for exactly-balanced preset dimming.

Beach House: Malibu, California. Added landscape lighting for expanding beachfront estate, where very soft, dimmed fixtures light the trees and paths through the sculpted myoporum groves.

Designed landscape lighting for 34-acre estate featuring vine-covered pergolas, a linden allee, & English gardens for outdoor dining & after-dinner strolls. Tiny wrought iron & copper path lanterns were developed to seem as if they'd been there for 200 years, & aged copper sconces are tucked beneath pergola beams to encourage walks under grape vines & around the landscape. The north view from the Dining Room is of dimmed, layered uplights on an enormous beech tree, & the view of the Carriage House has been warmed up, by lighting occasional windows around the three stories & dimly washing the cornice.

Tiny fixtures uplight the cupolas of two open air dining gazebo's, set above a pair of 30' long lily pools, where dimmed lighting at the bottom silhouettes the sculpted plantings above. The electrical system for the entire site is submersible to protect the conduits from occasional flooding.

Designed and renovated landscape lighting for 5-acre bayfront estate featuring sculpted allees of pleached ficus trees, and elegant water gardens of purple and white lotus flowers. We're developing a floating fiber optic fixture with a little lit crystal centered on a patina-ed copper plate, like a little floating votive candle, for catching the colors of the flowers without causing any glary reflections in the water from downlighting.  Huge royal poincianas, ficus, & outdoor sculpture are cautiously uplit with most groups on separate dimmers, so the amazing views across the water are gently framed.

Redesigned landscape and exterior lighting for beachfront estate, with tiny, shrouded, heavy brass downlights staggered along trails to swimming or hammocks, and underwater dock lighting set up for feeding “trained” tropical fish at dusk. Security concerns introduced tiers of lighting control, also accessible in the main house, with marine-grade weather-proof buttons on teak posts set in the garden to turn on lighting as one descends down the paths for a late-night ocean swim.

Designed lighting for advertising agency's penthouse terrace featuring a Japanese viewing garden with planters inlaid with troughs of sedum & river stones. Design eliminated glare for 3-sided viewing from offices & conference rooms, & compliments the southern views of city lights at night.
